Super Furry Festival 2015
Super Furry Festival 2015 went off with a bang! Let’s recap what happened shall we:
The Super Furry Festival team arrived at Shannon Reserve at 5:30am to begin set up. Marquees were raised, tables were arranged and many coffees were consumed. We were all incredibly excited to see our plans and hard work turn into reality.
By 7am things were really starting to come together. The first round of volunteers arrived for duty; the market area was coming together and our caffeine hit was well and truly kicking in.
At 9am we were raring to go and couldn’t wait for the festival to start! Our stallholders and animal rescue organisations were set up and we had a great crowd walking through (both humans and the four legged kind).
It was hard to stay focused on the job at hand with so many friendly dogs around. One particular pooch really made a name for himself as he spent the day inspecting the stalls, saying hello and making new friends. His name was Barney and we couldn’t get enough of him. With his fabulous pure white fur and friendly face, he is the perfect spokesdog for Potty Plant, one of our stallholders on the day.
From 9:30am we had some sweet tunes from students at Sevcon School of Contemporary Singing. They were outstanding and provided the perfect entertainment for those lounging on the grass area with their furry friends.
The kitty cuddle tent also had a 30 minute waitlist by 10am, but that was no surprise given how cute and tiny the kittens were; it was impossible to resist them. The kitty cuddle tent was by far one of the most popular events and the best part was that these kittens were actually up for adoption. By the end of the day 2 of the kittens found their forever homes.
Do you know what else is impossible to resist? Dogs dressed up in cute clothes. This year we featured 2 doggie fashion shows - it was a sell out! It was incredibly amusing to watch the dogs strut their stuff down the runway, including one little doggie named Peanut Butter. In fact, after Super Furry Festival he was adopted so he must have some serious catwalk skills!
Finally, special mention goes to Messina for providing some out of this world, custom icecream for Super Furry Festival. These paw and bone shaped icey treats were the perfect way to cool down after an intense day of petting animals.
All in all Super Furry Festival had:
8 animal rescue organisations
- Sydney Dogs and Cats Home
- Cat Protections Society NSW
- Rocky’s K9 Rescue
- Maggie’s Rescue
- Cat Rescue 901
- Monika’s Doggie Rescue
- Greyhound Rescue
- Animals Australia
7 kittens, 1 cat and 6 dogs up for adoption on the day
$2000 raised from our raffles, lucky dip and Messina gelato
This money will be going towards Rocky’s K9 Rescue to help them with medical expenses, food and boarding for the dogs.
In addition to this money, each animal rescue organisation was able to fundraise on the day. This money goes directly to the organisation to use as they see fit to benefit their animals.
It was an incredible day filled with fun fur love and we can’t wait to do it again next year. Thanks to all who worked behind the scenes and came on the day!
